Merit Motion Pictures (MMP) is a leading Canadian independent producer of factual entertainment for theatrical and television audiences. Founded in 1988 by Executive Producer Merit Jensen Carr, MMP is recognized within the industry for producing programming which entertains, informs, and reflects the comedy, the drama and the pathos of the human experience. From in depth current affairs to biography and lifestyle series, from observational documentary to history and science programs, MMP has a well-established reputation for producing intelligent top quality factual programming of worldwide interest.

Recent programs include:

• Recreating Eden - Season V: 13 x ½ hour HD nature/biography series for Vision TV.
• The Science of the Senses: 4 x 1 hour HD documentary series co-produced with CBC’s The Nature of Things. • The Truth About Liars: 1 x 1 hour HD documentary for CBC’s Doc Zone.
• 40 Years of One Night Stands: Feature length and 1 x 1 hour documentary for BRAVO!. Co-produced with Inside Out Productions.
• Ballet High: 1 x 90 minute documentary for BRAVO!. Co-produced with the International Emmy Award-winning company vonnie VON HELMOLT film.

Upcoming theatrical films include Tutu Much, a feature documentary produced by MMP and the Emmy award winning producer, Vonnie Von Helmolt film (Dracula: Pages of a Virgin’s Diary) to be screened in theatres across Canada by Cineplex Odeon in 2009. MMP is also executive producer for three theatrical documentary feature co-productions in development with the National Film Board of Canada: Arctic Defenders, a feature documentary written and directed by the acclaimed director John Walker, Hotel Chernobyl written and directed by award winning director John Paskievitch, and Dude, Where’s My Revolution as well as a dramatic feature adaptation of Miriam Toews’ award-winning novel, Summer of My Amazing Luck, co-produced with Vonnie Von Helmolt film and currently in development with Superchannel.

For television broadcast, MMP is now in production on One Ocean, a 4 x 1 hr documentary series co-produced with CBC’s The Nature of Things and National Geographic International about the history and state of the world’s oceans; Vixens and Virgins, a 1 hr documentary for CTV about the effects of the media on teenage girls; and The Secret World of Shoplifting, a 1 hr documentary for CBC’s Doc Zone about shoplifting.

Awards and acknowledgement recently received by MMP include two Gemini Awards, six Gemini nominations, a Platinum and Silver Remi at the WorldFest in Houston, a Silver Medal at the Chicago Film Festival, four Golden Sheaf Awards, and the prestigious LA Humanitas Award for films of humanitarian significance. In addition, MMP’s family Thanksgiving special Smudge was officially selected as TNT’s nominee for an International Emmy.
